TONY CULVER

Painter/potter/sculptor/illustrator/novelist/playwright/poet/avant garde publisher sometime actor/director/performance artist,  based in Devon.  Internationally exhibited as writer (probably the only writer in English history who could make such a claim), illustrator, publisher and painter.  Internationally performed as actor and performance artist.

As PAINTER he has 'revolutionised' 'The Painting' (fixed, flat, two dimensional, single image, framed, wall hung) several times.  Notably INFINITE IMAGE PAINTINGS -  a total redesign   of the  hackneyed (been in use for 600 years, internationally) 'Painting' (see above).   Latently, there exist more compositions in one infinite image painting than there are fixed single image paintings in all the art museums, galleries and private homes in Europe!  Largely brought about by having LOOSE INTERACTIVE COLOUR AREAS as well as fixed colour areas (the cliched tradition) in the work.  The loose colour areas can be reorganised, by the buyer, in an infinite number of relationships, ergo, create an infinite number of variations on the root composition.  THE PAINTING AS VAST ART COLLECTION, instead of 'The painting as single image daub' (output of 99.9% of painters for 600 years).

As POTTER has 'revolutionised' 'The Vessel' (single skin of clay round a single space with fixed decorative effects)  The basis for - vases, urns, bowls, jugs, amphoras, pots, cups, mugs, jars since the dawn of civilisation.  Tony creates INFINITE DECORATIVE EFFECT VASES  which have MULTIPLE skins and fixed and LOOSE decorative effects.  These latter can be reorganised in an infinite number of different relationships, giving rise to an infinite number of  different aesthetic effects.

As SCULPTOR has not only introduced THE BOOK AS SCULPTURE but also MYRIAD FORM SCULPTURE, (loose blocks reorganisable in myriad different relationships, creating myriad different aesthetic forms).  This broke with a tradition in sculpture dating back some 8,000 years to the first works in Egypt and Sumeria - THE FIXED STANDING PIECE SCULPTURE (stone, metal, wood).  Currently the R.A. GORMLEY is using this concept for his figures located on buildings round London.  100% of 'public sculpture' is based on it.

Tony's work is usually suppressed in the U.K. which has a a NEO-APARTHEID mindset in place in galleries, art centres, art societies.  This mindset?  "WITH art college qualifications = WHITE/work acceptable;  WITHOUT qualifications = NEGROE/work unacceptable". These same art colleges spend a lot of time indoctrinating the young into the tired business of superficially amending The Painting, The Fixed Standing Piece Sculpture, The Vessel. - superficial amendments thereto being the collective cliched 'arts' of capitalism for centuries.  As 'The Book' and 'The Script in Performance' are and have been the tired forms used by conformist literary personnel.
