Speakeasy have launched their Open Creative Writing Competition 2011.

Two Categories: Poem, and Short Story

PRIZES: In each category
First Prize £100.
Second Prize £50.
Third Prize £25.

ENTRY FEES: Poetry £3 each (£10 for 4 poems) - Short Story = £4 each (£10 for 3 stories).
No maximum entries.
Entry fees MUST be in Sterling. NO OTHER CURRENCY WILL BE ACCEPTED. Cheques & Postal orders made payable to Speakeasy. Please mark the reverse with COMP 11. Cash in Sterling may be sent at the sender’s own risk.

ENTRIES MUST BE ENTIRELY THE COMPETITOR’S OWN WORK and MUST NOT HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED (including internet) or have won a prize in any other competition. WRITERS RETAIN THEIR OWN COPYRIGHT AND MAY SUBMIT THEIR WORK TO OTHER SOURCES AFTER 31st DECEMBER 2011. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RETURNED, so please keep a copy.

Should there be insufficient entries Speakeasy reserve the right to hold the entries over to the next competition or return the manuscripts and entry fee or reduce the prize money. No correspondence will be entered into. The judge’s decision is final.

Some tips if you are entering:-

DON’T:
• send your entry by special delivery
• put any identifying marks on your entry. This includes names and addresses, drawings, clip art, or any other marks that will make the entry stand out from the other entries.
• enter the same entries simultaneously in any other competition.

DO:
• type in English on white A4 paper in black ink.
• enclose a signed entry form and the required entry fee.
• (Poems only) write the number of lines on the top left hand corner & staple top left hand corner if continuing onto other pages.
• (Stories only) double spaced & stapled top left hand corner with word count written clearly in the top left hand corner by the staple.
• be sure to put the correct postage on your envelope. Incorrect postage items will NOT be accepted.
