The vignette is a word-picture. It may be likened to the art expressed in a cameo or a miniature painting. It can be insightful, poignant, exciting, amusing or shocking. It may encapsulate a moment of discovery, or be a precise snapshot conveying something memorable to the reader about a character or an event. The territory is somewhere between a poem and a short story. 

  • First Prize £30 with consolation prizes of £10 or equivalent in euros to each commended entry
  • Results and publication of the winners will appear on this website on 17 April 2010
  • Winning entries will be published in the First Segora Anthology along with poems and short stories from 2007 – 2010 
  • Entries may be on any theme, not previously published or prize-winners and must be written in English. Word count 300 excluding title
  • It is not necessary to double space but please use at least 12 point font in a clear typeface
  • Entry fee: £3 single entry or £5 for two 

The judge of this first Segora Vignette competition is Dr. Bernard Lord, formerly a GP. He resides in France where he writes poetry, stories and memoirs.
