Competition: Comic Short Story Competiton
Run By: Creative Writing Cources
Genre: short story
Prize: Upto £100
Deadline: 30th March 2010

Comic short stories and the graphic novel have fascinated, entertained and educated us throughout our history. From the earliest cave man drawings to the latest graphic novels, the image has been used as an integral part of many a good story.

Although graphic stories have never really disappeared from our reading choices they are fast gaining new ground in the 21st century. Even Shakespeare has been rendered as a graphic novel. To celebrate this marriage of story and art we are running a competition with an unusual concept.

This is a short story competition with a twist. We have had a graphic artist create a character, and we have given this character a limited back story to maintain cohesion. We are now asking people to create stories around this character.

From the winning entries we hope to build up a collection of stories which will be transformed in to graphic stories and published and distributed for free in the UK.

The competition will be judged by a panel of our resident authors.

This competition is open to anyone. The entry fee is £4 per story.

The 10 winning stories which will be used to create a graphic novel. This will initially be published and distributed in the greater London area.

The prizes are:

1st Prize: £100

2nd Prize: £50

3rd Prize £25

The remaining 7 winners will receive a £10 prize plus a copy of the comic.

We are not looking for perfect grammar or literary masterpieces - what we are looking for is a cracking good story, so get writing!
