The Pighog Press short story competition for writers of children’s fiction is open to unpublished writers in Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Kent.

The winners will be announced by May 10th 2010.

The competition judges are: Laura Atkins, John Davies, Sarah Delmege, Sam Hall, Paul Long, Neela Masani and Valeria Melchioretto. Valeria is an award winning poet. Neela is a writer, dramatist and psychotherapist based in Hove. Sam is a Kent-based writer and literature developer. Paul AnthonyLong is a published writer and independent filmmaker living in Portsmouth. Sarah is a journalist and author who writes fiction for girls and young women. John Davies
(Chair) is a writer, poet and filmmaker (also known as Shedman) and Laura is a children's literature specialist based in Brighton.

We can only consider stories that have been submitted correctly so please follow these simple instructions carefully. Good luck!

Competition Rules:
• Please submit your entry/ies with an Entry Form and a Cover Sheet for each story submitted.

• Writers must be resident in the Southern counties of Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire or Kent and be 16 years of age or more.

• Writers of any nationality are welcome to submit a story, but the story must be written in English.

• The story must be no more than 3,000 words. They should be formatted in Arial (font size 12), double-spaced with wide margins. Please number the pages.

• Stories must not have been published previously nor accepted for publication. They must be original pieces of work, written by the writer who has submitted the story.
