David Hare the award-winning writer of The Hours and The Reader discusses his career to date.

David Hare has a reputation for elegant and highly intelligent screenplays which inspire extraordinary performances from actors. For The Reader and The Hours he was nominated for BAFTA, Golden Globe and Academy awards. He won a BAFTA for his 1979 TV Play Licking Hitler.

It’s 1923 and Virginia Woolf is beginning her famous novel Mrs Dalloway. Thirty years later, American housewife Laura Brown seeks somewhere peaceful to read the same book; and in present day New York, Mrs Dalloway’s namesake Clarissa Vaughan is planning a party for her ailing literary friend Richard. Adapted from Michael Cunningham’s brilliant novel, The Hours explores the emotional torments thrown at three very different women.
