Ronald Harwood, the hugely admired and respected writer of The Pianist and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly talks about his craft.
Hugely admired and respected writer Ronald Harwood is perhaps best know for his screenplays for The Dresser, The Pianist and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, but his considerable body of work also includes Australia, Cry, the Beloved Country, Being Julia and The Browning Version. Among his many awards, he has been thrice Oscar-nominated – with a win for The Pianist – and a four-time BAFTA nominee, with The Diving Bell and the Butterfly taking a 2008 prize.

Following the talk there is also a screening of The Dresser.
In a touring Shakespearean theatre company during the WW2 blitz, a backstage hand – the dresser Norman (Courtenay) – is devoted to the tyrannical, alcoholic, close-to- deranged but brilliant head of the company, ‘Sir’ (Finney). Delicious theatricality abounds, as the backstage embodiments of Lear and The Fool rival the on-stage performances until the show reaches crisis point. By turns comedy and tragedy, a must-see.
