Opportunity: Writer, Endo Play
Genre: Theatre
Paid: £15k-20k pro rata
Deadline: 18th October 2011
A directing partnership is looking for a writer for a ground breaking project exploring the medical condition Endometriosis. This is a gynaecological condition that affects many women, the cause and cure of which is still unknown. It is only diagnosed by surgery, and many women suffer for years before being diagnosed, but even then have very limited resources with which to continue. We are working with the support of the charity Endometriosis UK, and our aim is that this project will not only raise awareness of the condition to both men and women and their families, but will also be able to stand up on its own as an excellent piece of theatre, exploring the human behaviour behind this condition, real life experiences, and will be a powerful story alongside being centred around Endometriosis.
We are currently applying for funding for a Research and Development week for early 2012, in which the writer will need to be involved. From this we will be commissioning a full script, from which the final performance will evolve. We are looking for a writer with the following qualities:
- happy to work on a director led project, but who will have creative freedom within that framework.
- genuinely passionate about both the subject matter and about the intricacies of human behaviour, emotions and interactions.
- able to work collaboratively within an R&D setting and with the creative team.
- prepared to immerse themselves in a complex medical and scientific world.
Rates of pay will be ITC minimum.
To apply please send a short covering letter explaining why this project interests you specifically, and send a CV and one example of a full length play. If you have an example which includes either scientific or medical content then please send this over any other work - this is not essential however if you have not written on these subjects in the past.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.
