Cuckoo welcomes submissions of original writing by writers under the age of 19

Cuckoo welcomes submissions of original writing by writers under the age of 19. We encourage everything from poetry to prose, short stories to movie reviews, opinion to imagination. It can be work that fits the categories laid out in previous editions or entirely different; don’t feel constrained by form or genre.

We’re keen to make Cuckoo more visual and interactive and so the only guideline we have is to think about the medium your writing is presented in. If you’ve written a long poem, why not make an audio recording of it? If you’ve written a screenplay, why not make a video podcast? Or if you’re a young illustrator or photographer get in touch. We’d like the magazine to be playful, diverse and accessible to all sorts of readers.

To submit, email your work and a two-sentence biography to editors@cuckooquarterly.com.

Cuckoo
will be published quarterly and the deadline for submissions for Edition 2 is 21 December 2011. You will hear from us after this date as to whether your work will be published.

Note: if your submission is accepted for publication you may be asked to edit your work. Cuckoo will always give guidance on editing.
