Competition Rules 

  1. Stories must be a maximum of 1500 words, with an open theme.
  2. Closing date for entries: 23:59 GMT on 31st January 2012.
  3. Results will be announced in the April/May 2012 issue of Chudleigh Phoenix and on this website.
  4. Entries must be in English.
  5. Entries may be submitted by post or electronically via email.
  6. Entry fee is £5 sterling; no other currencies will be accepted.
  7. Multiple entries are permitted, providing each one is accompanied by correct fee.
  8. ENTRIES MUST BE ENTIRELY THE COMPETITOR’S OWN WORK and MUST NOT HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED (including internet) or have won a prize in any other competition.
  9. Entries should not be submitted simultaneously in any other competition.
  10. WRITERS RETAIN THEIR OWN COPYRIGHT AND MAY SUBMIT THEIR WORK TO OTHER SOURCES AFTER 30th  APRIL 2012.
  11. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RETURNED, so please keep a copy.
  12. No correspondence will be entered into. The judge’s decision is final.
  13. PRIZES: First Prize £100; Second Prize £50; Third Prize £25. An additional £25 prize will be awarded to the best entry from a local writer. Local is defined as living in the TQ13 postal area.
  14. Prize winners will agree to their stories being published on this website for a period of up to 12 months  after the results are announced.
  15. Submission of an entry will be taken as acceptance of these rules.
Postal Submissions

  1. Entries submitted by post should be typed and printed in black on A4 white paper.
  2. Pages should be numbered and there should be no identifying marks on your entry (this includes names and addresses, drawings, clip art, or any other marks that will make the entry stand out from the other entries).
  3. Your name, address and telephone number should be enclosed on a separate sheet, which should also state the title of the story and the word count.
  4. The entry must be accompanied by a cheque or postal order for £5 made payable to The Chudleigh Phoenix.
  5. Entries should be addressed to: Chudleigh Phoenix, The Granary, 3 Palace Mill, Rock Road, Chudleigh, TQ13 0JJ, UK.
  6. Please ensure that you pay the correct postage for your entries. ENTRIES WITH UNDERPAID POSTAGE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR THE COMPETITION.
  7. If you require acknowledgement of receipt, please include a stamped, addressed envelope with 'receipt' written on the back.
  8. If you require a printed list of winners, please include a stamped addressed envelope with 'winners' on the back.
Electronic Submissions

  1. Before making an electronic submission, you must pay your entry fee via PayPal. Alternatively, you can send a cheque or postal order to the above address. 
  2.  Entriessubmitted electronically should be emailed to chudleighphoenix@heathside.com.
  3. Paste your entry into the body of the email. Do not send as an attachment. EMAILS WITH ATTACHMENTS WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT BEING OPENED.
  4. Include with your entry, your name and proof of payment from PayPal
