Opportunity: A Project on Love
Run By: Sabrina Dridje
Genre: theatre
Entry Fee: none
Deadline: 16th February 2012
Writer(s) wanted for a piece of exciting, site specific performance. This work revolves around the exploration of love in our city and will take the form of dramatic vignettes. It will be rehearsed from February until May by a collaborative group (actors, directors, coaches, experiential designers and dramaturgs) in a series of workshops. Due to the nature of this piece, we would like to work closely with our writer(s) and expect them to take part in some of these workshops. Dates and times can be arranged subject to availability.
This work is inspired by the evolution of the London lonely hearts columns of the 1800's - the culture of note passing and secret collection in city coffee houses; the advent of publicly declaring the want for a life partner; the playfulness of talking around what should not be uttered in print.
We are looking to spin a narrative which follows a group of characters across film, theatre and real life (one-on-one audience interactions) as they pursue love. Our audience will actively accompany them along a journey. They deal a formative hand in how the story unfolds - writing love letters; shifting the right time to the right place; creating escapes on disaster dates; championing our character's plight. All this works up to a dramatic theatrical conclusion where we finally see if love will flourish or pass on by.
And so to you:
To help us chose a writer, we are asking for submissions of interest accompanied by a script idea and one scene of writing (of 5 to 15 min in length).
The final work will be performed in a site specific and unconventional theatre space by a small company of actors. This should be reflected in your submission - be adventurous and sit the characters among their audience, take them on a walk....
