Ever wondered why it is so hard to find someone to read your script? Basically there is a lot of crap out there, it can be poorly written, an exact copy of another show, the costs maybe too high or the audience too narrow. Basic errors waste people's time and finally the TV companies shut their doors and deal with scripts from recognised names and those with agents. The lesson is that just because you have a script does not mean you should send it to everyone who is willing to read unsolicited scripts.
Do your research, in some cases you are better off sending a synopsis than a whole script if they want to hear more they will let you know. Also pay attention to programmes they make, it is no use sending your sit-com to a company that makes drama.

BBC Writersroom
Writersroom is the first point of call at the BBC for unsolicited writers.
All work is assessed primarily for the talent of the writer, and in addition for the script's suitability for any strand of BBC Drama, Entertainment and Children's programmes. They get a lot of scripts and if your first ten pages don't leap of the page they will read no further.

Baby Cow Productions
Baby Cow was established by Henry Normal and Steve Coogan in 1999. Since its inception, the company has produced a sack load of award-wining and highly acclaimed comedy programmes for the BBC, ITV, UK digital channels, world sales and DVD sales.Baby Cow is always on the lookout for new talent and we have a dedicated development department. Five is a broadcaster not a production company, but their website does list their commisioners and what they are looking for, keep in mind that these are really intended for production companies, but it does give you a contact for making a pitch and if they like it they may be able to put you in touch with a production company with development funds. They are currently looking for scripted kids TV, one of the few places that still is.

To say there are few production companies that are willing to read unsolicited material is understatemnet, so it is refreshing to find Red the company behind Queers as Folk, Clocking Off and New Street Law still has their door open. They don't use outside readers so it may take time to get to your script and as always it worth making contact first.
